My laptops USB ports stopped working all of the sudden?

Out of the blue they just stopped working properly. I can get them to work if I really push the USB in but I don't want to break anything. There are 4 USB ports on my laptop (2 on each side) and I don't see how all of the sudden ALL of them would just start malfunctioning...
